Our Mountain Retreat

We stayed home for Christmas this year. Our first time, ever. It was fabulous, but was followed by the realization that since we stayed home for Christmas, we would not get to visit our beautiful mountain retreat (in a location I will not disclose to maintain anonymity), also known as my parents' house. So on New Year's Day, we loaded our van and headed South, braving the roads (which were fine) and the weather (which was quite beautiful). We spent four fabulous days with no phone, TV or internet, and mostly just with our little family of 5. Since we live in a town with no hills (also an undisclosed location, but think "prairie"), my kids were thrilled to get to toboggan town a giant mountain. The parents were not so thrilled to haul the kids back up the hill over and over again, but it was worth it. We watched great movies, played games, dug out a snow cave, and basically just had a break from our real lives. Last night as we drove home on the treacherous road (which we later found out was closed shortly after we made the turn North), we decided that even if we always spend Christmas at home from now on, we have to make a trip there in the winter. There is truly nothing better than a world of entertainment right outside your door. Thanks Mom & Dad!
